Pipe Layer

Men doing construction work.The Pipe Layer is a role specific to our Underground Utility Division. Pipe Layers install underground pipes that provide services to residential, civil and commercial customers. These pipes range in size from 4” to 72” in diameter and are used for water, sanitary sewer and storm water drainage. The Pipe Layer is responsible for positioning, joining and aligning these pipes at proper depths, angles and grades. The Pipe Layer will also use a laser to align and grade the pipe sections so as to ensure proper flow through them. The Pipe Layer is the key person in the excavation who communicates with others in and around the excavation to ensure the safety and efficiency of the work.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Signal equipment operators to ensure a safe and proper excavation.
  • Establish alignment and grade with the use of a laser.
  • Align and join sections of pipe.
  • Coordinate all other activities in the excavation.
